04-26-19 The Wooden Wind Chimes
It came as no surprise when we got the email cancelling soccer practice today due to inclement weather. The sky had been cloudy all day, threatening rain.
In lieu of soccer practice, we got together with the “neighbor cousins” and worked on a craft – Wooden Wind Chimes. The kids painted sticks which we then assembled into the chimes. I think the finished product turned out pretty adorable! (To be honest, I’ll take craft time over soccer time anyday!!)

04-25-19 Soccer? Probably Not…
Tomorrow is week four of soccer. The first week rained and it was cancelled. We made it to the second week, even if some of us were struggling with enthusiasm. The third week was cancelled due to thunderstorms.
And tomorrow? Well, it’s forecast to be rainy ALL day. Ugh. Seriously we should have signed up for soccer on a Tuesday. It never seems to rain on Tuesdays.
…..
My sister and I stumbled upon an awesome coffeeshop today. It’s in a renovated church complete with grand arches and beautiful stain glass windows. It was gorgeous!

By the time we got home, we were greeted with some adorable art on the driveway.

04-24-19 Art Class
A while ago I signed C up for a homeschool art class and today was their first meeting. We met in a pavilion at a local park. There were seven other students in the class, all around C’s age. The topic for the day was printmaking and the kids did two different techniques- one with paint and shaving cream and the other with tinfoil and markers. C really enjoyed the experience and seemed to hit it off well with the other girls. The class is going to run for five more weeks, so hopefully it’s a great opportunity for her to meet new people and make new friends!

This kid may be shy, but he’s big on bold fashion choices! Consequently, he’s also an awesome superhero.
04-19-19 Prairie Fires
We started through the Little House series sometime in December. I was really shocked at how quickly my kids devoured the stories, asking me to read each night and during schooltime.
Earlier this week we finished our last Little House book and my children experienced something I’ve lived through countless times… At the end of the last page they legitimately got sad. The story was over. No more Little House adventures. Big E took it the hardest saying he wasn’t ready to be finished with Laura’s life.
It’s hard for me to say which was my favorite, but if I had to choose, I think I’d pick Little Town on the Prairie. C liked Farmer Boy best, and even picked it up to read to herself. Big E liked Little House on the Prairie the best and poor Baby E is still trying to work out which character is which and had no idea which book we were reading at any given time.
Since finishing, we have gotten back on track with our curriculum reading and we started Mountain Born by Elizabeth Yates. I’ve read a few of her books so far and I have been very impressed. So far the kids are loving this one.
As for me, I borrowed a book from the library called Prairie Fires. It’s a comprehensive biography of Laura Ingalls Wilder, and while I am not a huge fan of nonfiction, I thought I’d give it a try. Sixty pages in I have learned a great deal about her family history, and the climate of the country during the early Western expansion. It would be way over the kids’ heads but I am enjoying it.

04-18-19 An Unlikely Obsession

This is Baby E sitting happily in the egg chair in one of his favorite places, the bubble tea store. He might hate bread with every fiber of his being, but this kid loves bubble tea. Go figure.
